What keeps Neville going? What motivates him to continue to fight against the odds? Form a hypothesis and then use a quotation or two from the book that prove your hypothesis. Conclude your journal entry by telling, truthfully, whether or not you would have the same tenacity, if you were in Neville’s shoes. Explain why you think you would or wouldn’t hang on for as long as Neville does–through all the obstacles he’s attempting to overcome.

How do you imagine Robert Neville? If you’ve seen the movie starring Will Smith, how did that affect your imagination? Or did it?

In your mind’s eye, do you picture Neville in rags? In army surplus clothing? Does he wear military boots? Does he carry weapons on his person?

How do you imagine his physical features? Does he have a handsome face, or does he look worn-out from fighting? Describe his physical features. How tall is he? What race is he? Does he look like anyone you know? Does he look like an actor from a movie? If so, who? And why him?
