I’m a former English teacher-turned librarian. After more than 20 years in the English classroom, I guess I’ve learned a few things about how to teach English. Thus the blog. Why not share?

I also have a couple of fun hobbies. I write books. I also design doll clothes. My free sewing patterns are featured at ChellyWood.com (feel free to pop over and see what my “inner child” looks like. As a writer and doll clothing designer, I’m represented by Elizabeth Kracht of Kimberley Cameron & Associates.

Here are few little tidbits about me that might interest you as well:

  • I’ve survived an emergency landing in an airplane more than once.
  • Before the arthritis hit me, I taught fencing (the sport of modern swordsmanship) for 20 years.
  • My great-great grandparents sank to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. They were aboard the Titanic.
  • Ate age seven, I ate canned cat food on a dare. It tastes sort of like it smells: fishy.

  1. Dear Chelly,

I hope you don’t mind me contacting you out of the blue.

My name is Jamie Thomson and I’m site owner of The Tutor Website. We provide practical advice to students, parents and tutors on private tuition in the UK through our blog articles. We also provide free access to our tutor directory.

I’m writing to let you know that I’ve included your blog in our ‘Awarded Websites’ section of the site. Our links are chosen specifically to help private tutors access information on their given subjects and on educational advice in general.

I’ve included your ‘English Emporium’ blog in our listing as I feel that many of our users would be interested in reading your blog’s content:

I would also like to send you a badge that you can embed on your blog if you like – it would be great for us to have a link back to our site.

    All the best,

    Jamie

  2. Saturday morning, NPR on the radio, cat on the bed. This is an exciting place to be and being here noticed some books I’ve read. Curious about those I haven’t. What is anyone’s opinion on “The Mockingjay Series” ?

    • Jan, thanks for visiting my blog! I’ve read the Suzanne Collins’ books, but I was a little disappointed by the ending of the third book… If she writes a fourth, I don’t think I’ll buy it. She can weave a captivating tale! But I was so disappointed by the ending of Mockingjay.

      Your opinion?
