General Topics #4: Build a Story Chain Based on Your Favorite Books

Standard

Each entry is worth only one point for those of you in Mrs. Sparhawk’s class, but you can do up to ten entries. Here’s how the character chain story works:

  • I’ll provide a start to the story as the first comment. It will reference a summary from a book.
  • The next person adds a comment. Their comment can’t be longer than ten words. Those ten words need to make a reference to a different book’s setting/characters/events.
  • Each person must copy/paste the last person’s story segments into their own comments before adding onto it.

So here’s how it would go (example):

ESTHER’S COMMENT: Harry Potter hopped on a train and headed out to… (10 words)

JOHNNY’S COMMENT: Harry Potter hopped on a train and headed out to… Bristol, where he met up with a one-legged sailor… (he added only 10 words also)

CLAUDETTE’S COMMENT: Harry Potter hopped on a train and headed out to… Bristol, where he met up with a one-legged sailor… named Bella, who fell desperately in love with a vampire… (she added only 10 words also)

JUAN’S COMMENT: Harry Potter hopped on a train and headed out to… Bristol, where he met up with a one-legged sailor… named Bella, who fell desperately in love with a vampire… Their biggest fear was the cheese that grew mold on…

Okay. So if you look at the example, each participant copied the last person’s entry and added another ten words that describe a totally different book, right? Let me break it down for you:

  • Harry Potter hopped on a train and headed out to… (Obviously, this description comes from a summary of Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling.)
  • Bristol, where he met up with a one-legged sailor… (For anyone who hasn’t read it, this is a reference to Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson.)
  • named Bella, who fell desperately in love with a vampire… (Duh. Twilight. Meyers.)
  • Their biggest fear was the cheese that grew mold on… (That one’s from Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney.)

So it gets harder to tack onto after you’ve done a bunch of books, you see? The story line needs to sort of make sense; that’s what makes it so challenging. Have fun with it. I’ve added the first comment. Tack onto mine by copying it and adding your ten words.
